About Dr. Wilkins
He was previously a Research Fellow at the US Forest Service AIRFIRE Team, and before that a postdoctoral scientist at the United States Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) in the Office of Research and Development. His research is funded by the Department of Energy (DOE), National Science Foundation, and NASA and he partners with each of those institution to foster his overarching mission of developing STEM workforce ready underserved minorities. He conducts research experiments and summer internship programs funded by NASA Student Airbourne Research Program and the Energy and Climate Resilience for the DOE. He serves as an executive member of the International Association of Wildland Fire, and many other groups leading the global push for air quality and health e.g., member of the International Association of Wildland Fire, NASA Health and Air Quality Applied Science Team, Fire Science Exchange Network, and the American Geophysical Union. Additionally, he volunteers his time serving on the executive board to create greener cities and building healthy mindsets towards nature with Keep Durham Beauty a Keep America Beautiful Affiliate, and Durham Public Schools Hub-Farm.

Buddy's Atmospheres Group
The overall goal of the BAG's research program is to increase BIPOC participation in atmospheric research by creating workforce-ready competent programmers and scientists. The Group centers on developing and applying transdisciplinary approaches to understanding extreme weather impacts on air quality, employing advanced air quality modeling tools, remote sensing techniques, and developing data fusion approaches to characterize and evaluate air pollution for North America. These advanced approaches are used to answer questions related to community-scale exposure and health, pollution transport, and wildland fire impacts.
